Q. Where to hang the Barn Owl Nesting Box? Attach it to a pole or in a tree away from a busy road, ten to twelve feet off the ground. If hung in a tree, hang metal flashing around the trunk to help keep the nestlings safer.
The entry hole should face a yard or meadow so the Barn Owls can swoop right in. Not too close to your bedroom window, all those nestlings can make quite a racket when father appears with dinner.
Never hang an owl nesting box that has a perch. This is a perfect stairway for all predators.
You do not need to supply nesting materials.
Now it is time to invite your neighbors over to see your new nesting box. It is a good time to check to see what sort of rodent and insect control they are using. Try to convert them to non-toxic, one neighbor at a time. If a poisoned rodent is consumed, the bird will die a very slow death, much like the rodent will do, which makes them a slow-moving target.
